They say that it is important to make friends whenever and wherever one can. That earned him bullying and teasing from his family and classmates. At sixteen he was “ buried under a casement of flesh,” which meant that he wasn’t just slightly overweight. Of course, there were and there will be exceptions, but poor Quoyle proved on his own example that a life of a person whose appearance wouldn’t even be considerate as average could be rather hard. Quoyle knew that good looks meant a lot and if one wasn’t blessed with beauty or – at least – just attractive appearance, that person could be mistreated, judged and underestimated by others.
